Over one hundred years ago, pedestals were an essential method for displaying palms and flower arrangements in upper class parlours. Typically made of marble, wood, ceramic, or artificial stone, displays in porcelain were highly unusual.
The column, constructed out of four cylindrical pieces, is connected to a sturdy square base and holds a marble plate at the top of a Corinthian-style decoration. Simple gold ornaments accommodate the piece. Rich flower bouquets with flowers typical of Dresden or a detailed Jean-Antoine Watteau paining demonstrate the diverse directions taken by the individual styles of the Dresden painters.
