For nearly three hundred years, a carved wooden counterpart has stood in the treasure chamber of the Saxonian Kings, the Green Vault in Dresden. Covered in gold and silver jewelry, adorned with a crown of precious stones, it presents the largest emerald tray in the world.
Modeled on pictures and pieced together from dozens of individually formed pieces, retouched, fired twice, and finally painted and embellished by steady hand, the black Moor was created out of white gold in the Dresden Porcelain factory.
In order to create this over 60 cm tall piece of art, the porcelain makers in the Saxonian Porcelain Factory Dresden couldn't rely solely on their traditional skills and practical experience. They undertook numerous previously untried experiments in order to attain their high expectations and create a new path.
